How to make lactation cookies at home

If you are a mom struggling low breast milk supply, then this is the post for you. When I delivered my daughter, my milk didn’t come until the fourth day. It was one of the lowest moment in my life because i felt like a failure. I felt terrible that I couldn’t feed my daughter. It specially hurt me because I could try latching her and nothing was coming out just yet and all she could do was cry. ( I cried along sometimes). The nurses at the hospital insisted that they will not discharge me or else I will be back with a sick baby (Jaundice).  They tried a few medication and my mom in law already brought a few flasks of soup and porridge but nothing worked. On the third day I was almost giving up until my friend visited with homemade lactation cookies. And I tried them. On the forth day, I had to pump out excess milk. I know you know how it feels to know that you have more than you need and can store for future use.

When I got home I asked for the recipe. It’s so easy to make lactation cookies. I made sure I had at least two lactation cookies daily. The results were amazing. I have never given formula!  I had so much milk that my baby was fully fed and I could manage to pump 400ml daily. When I was going back to work, my freezer was full of stash. She is turning one year in a week and the last bag was used last weekend for milk bath! Do you know other benefits of breastmilk other than feeding? Well, Keep at wow mom and I will tell you.

My passion is to educate parents. I know the question in your head right now is, What do these lactation cookies have that increase breast milk supply? How do they work?  The secret is in the ingredients. The must have in the lactation cookies is Oats, Flax or Fanugreek seed, Brewer’s yeast. These are ingredients you can easily find in the supermarket. These great ingredients are rich in galactagogue and beta-glucan that increase prolactin [known as the breastfeeding hormone] levels in both humans and animals. For more details on each ingredient, check out here.

Lets go to the recipe:

2 egg

3 tbsp of brewer’s yeast

1 cup butter/ margarine

2 table spoon of flax seed or fenugreek seeds

It’s that simple. Remember you still need to keep taking plenty of hot fluids. Eat balanced diet, and relax and enjoy that moment of nurturing your baby.
